» Non-Reusable Empty Ink Cartridges

Our free-to-use UK Empty Ink Cartridge Service accepts most cartridges for reuse, to help the environment and raise funds for our three partner charities.

Unfortunately, not all cartridges are reusable, and we cannot offer to take ineligible cartridges because of the costs involved, which would just reduce the money raised for charities.

Please note that if we can't take your cartridges, it's unlikely that other charity collectors can take them - and even if they do, it's very unlikely that charities will make any money from them.

Instead, this page lists solutions for environmentally-responsible disposal you might like to try. Though of course if you also have any ink cartridges that we can use, please do send the accepted cartridges to us.

Solutions that Benefit Charities

Got any Toner Cartridges?

If you are collecting toner cartridges (the larger counterparts to ink cartridges that use a toner powder) for us through the separate Empty Toner Cartridge Service and already qualify for a free collection, then we can take any non-accepted ink cartridges at the same time. Just put them in the toner cartridge boxes.

However, if you have accepted ink cartridges, please ensure you use the Empty Ink Cartridge Service to send those separately, as this raises considerably more money for every ink cartridge sent. It is only the non-accepted ink cartridges that should be sent with toner cartridges.

Team Up With Others Locally

If you are not collecting toner cartridges for us, you could act as a collection point for local businesses or individuals. Then your non-accepted ink cartridges could be sent alongside the toner cartridges, and of course, you'd be helping others to do a good thing.

Return to Manufacturer

Many cartridge manufacturers have take-back schemes that will accept cartridges they manufactured in order to responsibly dispose of or reuse them.

Please note that you should not send them cartridges that have been made under a different brand or refilled, and they will not give funds to charities in the process - so always use our service if you have qualifying cartridges in future.

Hewlett Packard (HP)

This free service allows you to return most laserjet and inkjet cartridges that were made by HP.

I'm afraid Sharp do not run a recycling service that we know of. If you would like to contact them about this, please do so on this page.

Return to Your Supplier

Some suppliers of cartridges will offer to take back the empties - please ask your supplier to see if this is something they can offer you.

Finally

The next best solution is to take your cartridges to a local charity shop or council civic amenity site. Many have cartridge collection boxes, and will accept almost any variety of cartridges for responsible disposal, even though charities are unlikely to make money from them.
